স্টার মসজিদ, যা বাংলায় "তারা মসজিদ" নামে পরিচিত, পুরান ঢাকার অন্যতম ঐতিহাসিক ও নান্দনিক মসজিদ। এই মসজিদের স্থাপত্যশৈলী ও অলঙ্করণ একে বাংলাদেশের অন্যান্য মসজিদ থেকে আলাদা করেছে।

প্রতিষ্ঠা:
মূলত, ১৮শ শতকের শেষ দিকে (প্রায় ১৭৩৩ সালে) ঢাকার একজন জমিদার মীর আবদুল্লাহ এই মসজিদটি নির্মাণ করেন।

পরিবর্তন ও সম্প্রসারণ:

• ১৯২৬ সালে ঢাকার এক ধনী ব্যবসায়ী আলী জান বেপারী মসজিদটিকে সংস্কার করেন এবং আধুনিক নকশা যোগ করেন।
• তিনি পুরো মসজিদে চীনামাটির টাইলস (চিনি টিকরি) দিয়ে নতুন ডিজাইন তৈরি করান, যা মসজিদের সৌন্দর্য বাড়িয়ে দেয়।
• মূলত ৩ গম্বুজবিশিষ্ট এই মসজিদটি পরবর্তী সময়ে ৫ গম্বুজে সম্প্রসারিত করা হয়।

স্থাপত্য ও অলঙ্করণ

 মসজিদের প্রধান বৈশিষ্ট্য হল এর "তারার" নকশা। পুরো মসজিদের দেয়াল, গম্বুজ, মেহরাব, এবং মেঝেতে অসংখ্য নীল, সাদা ও স্বর্ণালি তারার নকশা রয়েছে।
এই তারার ডিজাইন থেকেই মসজিদটির নাম "স্টার মসজিদ" বা "তারা মসজিদ" হয়েছে।
মসজিদে ব্যবহৃত চীনামাটির কারুকাজ মোগল ও ইউরোপীয় শিল্পশৈলীর সংমিশ্রণ।
 ভেতরের অংশে রয়েছে দৃষ্টিনন্দন আরবি খোদাই করা শিলালিপি ও ফুলের নকশা।

রিকশা/সিএনজি:

• গুলিস্তান থেকে: রিকশা বা সিএনজিতে মাত্র ১০-১৫ মিনিট।
• লালবাগ কেল্লা থেকে: রিকশায় প্রায় ১০ মিনিট।
• সদরঘাট লঞ্চ টার্মিনাল থেকে: রিকশায় ১০-১৫ মিনিট।

বাসে:

• গুলিস্তান বা সদরঘাট পর্যন্ত বাসে এসে, সেখান থেকে রিকশা বা সিএনজি নিলে সহজ হবে।

• পুরান ঢাকার রাস্তাগুলো বেশ সরু, তাই গাড়ি পার্কিং সমস্যা হতে পারে। কাছাকাছি পার্কিং করে হেঁটে যেতে পারেন।

In 1926, prominent businessman Ali Jan Bepari undertook a major renovation and expansion of the mosque. During this restoration:

• The mosque was decorated with exquisite Chinese porcelain mosaic tiles (Chini Tikri).
• The original three-domed structure was expanded into a five-domed mosque.
